Who’s Project Solar UK?

Gurmukh Bahra, an engineer, founded Project Solar UK in 2011. In 2012, Simon Peat took over as director and, together with Andrew Walton-Green and Colin Wood, jointly steered the company from strength to strength. Project Solar has been controlled by its parent company, Project Better Energy, since 2018.

The Project Solar UK head office is based in Burton-on-Trent, where the company employs around 150 people. Boasting A-grade stock that comes with a lifetime warranty, Project Solar covers all bases to help its customers with solar panels, smart home energy products and EV charge points.

According to their own data, Project Solar has installed over 45,000 solar panels and batteries. Across all their installations, that’s at least 150,000 tonnes of carbon emissions saved. In the 12 years they’ve been operating, that works out at 3,750 projects a year and 12,500 tonnes of carbon emissions saved annually. That’s the equivalent of the yearly heating emissions of 33,750 UK houses!

If that hasn’t helped you form a solid opinion of them, Project Solar UK’s last accounts for 2022 ended with a gross profit of £11.3 million. Their 2021 accounts were only £5.8 million, which shows a strong demand for solar panels throughout the UK.

Solar Panels from Project Solar UK

There are two solar panels that Project Solar installs, and their comparison can be seen below.

Evolution Titan 445W

Evolution Titan 445W Solar Panel
  • 21.4% efficiency

  • Lifetime warranty

  • Better low light performance

This monocrystalline solar panel is one of the most powerful in the business. Project Solar specifies that the Evolution Titan has 10% more power per metre squared than its standard counterparts. These solar panels have PERC technology, which means they offer higher efficiencies compared to traditional solar panels.

What’s more, these panels are designed to work well on cloudy days, giving you better performance in low light. They also feature 21.4% efficiency and a lifetime warranty, which is market-leading in the solar sector. For top-of-the-range solar panels, you can count on Project Solar UK to deliver.

SunPower 390W

SunPower Maxeon 390W Solar Panels
  • 22.1% efficiency

  • 25 year warranty

  • Scratch-proof and weather resistant

Project Solar also uses SunPower Maxeon solar panels. These are the most reliable panels on the market, being incredibly resistant to degradation and wear. Over 25 years, SunPower Maxeon panels are only expected to lose 10% of their efficiency. Traditional solar panels can lose up to 0.7% efficiency a year, which equates to 17.5% loss over the same time period.

SunPower Maxeon panels are so robust that they are more resistant to cracking and damage from the elements. They come with a 25 year warranty, which gives you more peace of mind. Knowing that your solar panels will last for a long time and stay in good condition is another reason you can put your faith in Project Solar UK. Research from SunPower suggests that their solar panels will be useful for 40 years.

Solar Roof Tiles from Project Solar UK

If you want an alternative to traditionally installed solar panels, you might be interested to know that Project Solar can help you by installing solar roof tiles instead. These still sit on your roof, but sit flush with the tiles instead of being elevated on brackets. They are difficult to integrate into an existing roof, so they’re usually best reserved for roof replacement jobs or a complete renovation.

Solar tiles from Project Solar UK come with a 12 year limited warranty and a 25 year performance warranty. When it comes to making use of solar power and relying less on energy companies, having the option of solar roof tiles gives you more flexibility. Homes in conservation areas or with restrictions on permitted developments may benefit from solar roof tiles more easily than solar panels.

Solar Batteries from Project Solar UK

Project CURV Logo

Under its sister company, Project CÜRV, Project Solar offers two kinds of solar battery: 6kW and 12kW storage. Both these batteries are designed to store energy at off-peak times when it’s at its cheapest, but they can also be integrated with solar panel technology.

The 6kW Power Storage is designed for 1-3 bedroom properties, whereas the larger 12kW Power Storage is recommended for 3-5 bedroom properties. Both systems can be controlled with a designated app, giving you the freedom to monitor and set your power levels when you’re away from your home.

Project Solar UK has designed these solar batteries to be compact by design, meaning you don’t have to give up much space in the home to benefit from stored electricity. The batteries are also modular, which allows you to add to them as and when you need to.

Here’s a recent 5 star review from one of their customers.

“Excellent Job Project Solar

I was looking for a company who could provide a high quality, long term solar energy solution to our home, delivered at an affordable price and found everything I wasted with Project Solar. From start to finish, the people were wonderful, identifying what you wanted and providing fully costed solutions very quickly. One of the key factors that attracted me to Project Solar was the life time guarantee, something that I found other competitors didn’t seem to offer!

The installation crew were superb. Their installation was neatly done with no unsightly cables on show. Upon completion, they ensured we knew how to use the user monitoring App, something we have found extremely helpful.

Excellent job Project Solar :-)”
